In the Tang Dynasty, admiring the full moon is very popular in the Mid-Autumn Festival. During the period of the Northern Song Dynasty, everybody in the town, no matter rich or poor, old or little child, will wear the clothes for adults and pray on to say their desire, pray for bless of the moon God. But in the Southern Song Dynasty, people will present each other with moon cakes, taking the meaning of reunion. Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, the custom of Mid-Autumn Festival is becoming more and more prevalent. Many places have the custom of burning incense, lighting tower lights, releasing sky lanterns, walking the moon, performing the dance of the fire dragon, and other special customs.
