Dali Overview



Dali, with the full name of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, located in the central west of Yunnan province, which gives Dali small temperature difference in four seasons with average temperature around 15℃. Besides, Dali is also famous for the many types of marble it produces, used in construction and for decorative objects, known as “Dali Stone” (Chinese: 大理石; pinyin: dali shi).  
In history, Dali was the capital of both the ancient Bai kingdom Nanzhao (738 A. D- 937 A. D) and Dali Kingdom (937A.D.-1253A.D.). There are two cities in Dali, for one is old Town (built during the Ming Dynasty Emperor Hongwu’s reigh 1368-1398) and the other is the city of administrative district. For keeping the original looks of the old Dali town, Dali government built a new city (Xia Guan city) separately from the old town in Longshan District, south of the old city.  
Nowadays, Dali is a major tourist destination for its long history with numerous heritages and various local folk customs with multi-ethnic groups.
