Yuexiu Park is one of the earliest parks that were established in Guangzhou. Even long ago in the Nanyue State of the Western Han Dynasty, Yuexiu Mountain had been a place of interest. In modern times, Sun Yat-sen had brought the idea forward to build Yuexiu Mountain into a large-scale and comprehensive park. However, it was not until later that his wish for a large park was materialized. After the liberation of Guangzhou, the People's Government realized his dream. Now Yuexiu Park is like in spring in all seasons with undulating hills and jade green trees, thriving with bountiful flora and fauna and green with subtropical charm.
Yuexiu Park belongs to the ending ranges of Baiyun Mountain and stretches for 3 km from the east to the west with an altitude of over 70 meters. The park has a total area of 928,000 square meters, which includes the Seven Hills of Yuexiu Mountain, Muke Hill, Changyao Hill, Liyutou Hill and Sweet Osmanthus Hill and the Beixiu, Nanxiu and Dongxiu artificial lakes. There are also pavilions, towers, lofts, the Zhongshan Monument, and the Five Goat Stone Statue. Additional attractions include a large sports playground and art gallery.
