The Thousand Islands Lake Stone Forest, located in Chun'an county 160km (100 miles) west of Hangzhou, is China's largest national park. Even though 81% of the park is covered with forest, the forest is famous because of the Thousand Island's Lake (Qiandao Lake). This lake, with water clear as glass, was formed in 1959 from the construction of New Anjiang Hydroelectric Power Station. This beautifully peaceful lake has 1078 islets or rock formations. This lake is rich with fish and other forms of aquatic life. The lake offers many activities from sightseeing to animal watching to hiking.
The lake's scenic area is separated geographically into six sections: Southeast Lake District, Central Lake District, Southwest Lake District, Northeast Lake District, Northwest Lake District and Fuxi Stone Forest. Each district has its own specialty and are all unique but equally beautiful.
It is best to visit in the autumn or winter when there is less rain and you can enjoy the crispy, cool air. In addition to enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery, you should try the seafood as well as some local specialties.
Thousand Island Lake is a very famous attraction that draws countless tourists and has eaed raving reviews from all of them.
