The Grand Canal Plaza is Huai'an's largest public plaza, covering an area of 70,000 square meters. It is a central spot for locals who come to enjoy the greenery of the surrounding trees and lawn. The plaza is spacious enough to comfortably hold a gathering of ten thousand people. In fact, this space is where regularly scheduled events are held, including art shows, folk festivals, exhibitions and dance performances. In the central north part of the plaza stands a statue of abstract art, and the east and west sides of this plaza are decorated with memorials to significant historical and cultural figures.
