The streets near the Id Kah Square are the best place for shopping in Kashgar. Shops on the streets heading north from the square sell good quality carpets. The rough looking and simple designs of the carpets reflect the culture of the nomads around this area, and the price is low.
For a souvenir, Xinjiang hats are a good choice for tourists. The hats play an integral part of the daily life of local Xinjiang people. To the east of the square, the streets sell a good selection of hats of all colors and patterns. Prayer hats, skull hats and furry winter hats, with dense Uigur ethnic flavor, can be found here.
South to the square is the main bazaar. There are workshops and stalls of blacksmiths and carpenters. They can be seen at work in front of their shops.
