Kashgar Overview



Kashgar city, located in the southwest of Xinjiang Autonomous Region and western border of China, is contiguous with the Taklimakan Desert on its east and borders Russia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kirghizia, Pakistan to its west and southwest respectively.  
In ancient times, Kashgar was called Shule, which has a history of more than 2,000 years. According to the record of the Persian Epic, Afulabuseyav, an ancient Tulan hero, established the capital of his kingdom here. Actually, the written evidence of Kashgar being capital in history could be traced back to the period, before Genghis Khan went on his expedition. Kashgar was the south capital of the Western Liao Regime established by Khitans, then; Kashgar became the region of crown prince of Chagatai after the western expedition finished. Later, Kashgar became the seat of government of the kashgar Councillor of the Qing government, during the region of Qing Dynasty.  
The particular geographic location gave Kashgar many special gifts: multi- ethnic groups with different food, dance, housing, marriage customs, etc. The main residence ethnic groups are Uygur, Han, Tajiks, Hui, Kirgiz, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Russian, Daur, Mongolian, Xibe, and Manchu and so on.  
Famous tourist attractions: Abakh Hoja Mosque, Id Kah Mosque, Ban Chao Memorial Park, Yarkand Khanate sites, tomb of Muhammad Kashgar, Mohr Pagoda, Emperor Tang City, Stone City and other historical sites. In the side of natural scenery, there are the world's second high peak-Djoghri Peak, Muztag Peak, Original Populus Euphratica, desert, oasis, glaciers, schrenk and fortest for tourist visiting. It's have to say that Kashgar is also the famous “the hometown of fruits”, be rich in pomegranates, grapes, fig, almond, mulberry, peach, Jiashi melon and so on.
