Kunming is the capital also the political, economic, communications and cultural center of Yunnan province in southwestern China. It is also home to several universities, museums, galleries and other important economic, cultural and educational institutions. Its present name ''Kunming'' was the sound of the title of an ethnic group residing in southwest China in ancient times. Because of its year-round temperate climate, Kunming is often called the ''Spring City'' or ''City of Eternal Spring''.
