Located on Xijin Xi Road opposite the Friendship Hotel, the museum contains more than 80,000 artifacts, including a variety of collections such as colorful painted pottery from the Neolithic Period, murals from the Wei and Jin periods, bamboo writing slips from the Han Dynasty, and bronze artifacts. The Museum was established in 1956, and the complex is made up of three separate buildings linked by corridors, and further divided into two sections, including a natural resources section downstairs and a historical exhibit upstairs.
The most prized objects in the museum are the bronze galloping horses, unearthed in the Easte Han Tomb in the Lejtai Temple in Wuwei City, and a gold coffin of Sarira in the Dayun Temple of the Tang Dynasty (618 C 907 A.D.). A visit is definitely worthwhile.
