Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, lies 3,700 meters above sea level and is considered the highest city in the world. It has also been known worldwide as the "sunlight city" because it enjoys radiant sunshine in daytime and gets dark at about 9 p.m. When inland cities in China are already covered by the curtain of night, the rays of sun falling on Lhasa have only just begun to fade and modern lamps come on to illuminate the city, making it dazzling at night.
Compared with other cities of China, the nightlife in Lhasa seems more low-key and simple to tourists and travelers in Lhasa. Nightlife activities in Lhasa are often limited to see Tibetan performances, sit around a table and chat with friend or stroll around a night market. A few nightclubs are mainly frequented by locals.
There are some night spots which feature cabaret acts in which performers sing in English, Chinese, Tibetan, and Nepalese songs and dancers wear traditional Tibetan costume with long flowing cloth extending from their arms. There are a number of small bars which feature live music, although they typically have limited drink menus and cater mostly to foreign tourists.
Night life in Lhasa is pretty colorful with pubs, stores and especially Langma Halls open and active.
