Pingyao County is located in central Shanxi, 94 kilometers northeast of Taiyuan. The Tong-Pu Railway, No.108 National Highway, Dong-Xia Road, Fen-Tun Road and Dayun Highway all pass Pingyao, which makes the transportation in Pingyao quite convenient.
Pingyao Railway Station and Pingyao Bus Station are located adjacent to the Old City. You can easily get into the Old City as soon as you arrive at the Pingyao County by train or long-distance bus.
By Flight
There is no airport in Pingyao County. Visitors need to take a flight to Taiyuan Wusu Airport (TYN) at first. This airport is 90 kilometers away from Pingyao. Then take a train or long-distance bus to arrive in Pingyao.
By Train
Pingyao Railway Station is located in the Zhongdu Road, outside the West Gate of Pingyao Old City. Passengers can take trains to and from major domestic cities like Beijing, Chengdu, Xi’an, Chongqing and Taiyuan. There is only one train from Beijing and also only one train to Beijing stop at Pingyao station daily. The same with trains to and from Chengdu, Xi’an and Chongqing.
There are frequent trains from Taiyuan to Pingyao with an interval of about 1~3 hours. And trains from Pingyao to Taiyuan with an interval of 20minutes~1.5hours between 15:00~23:30. The journey takes about 1~1.5 hours according to the type of the train with the price range of CNY 8~26.
By Long-distance Bus
Pingyao Long-distance Bus Station is situated near the southwest of Pingyao Railway Station. Passengers can take from this station buses mainly heading for Taiyuan City and the counties around Pingyao County, including Yuci and Jiexiu.
Visitors can take the tourist bus between Pingyao Old City and Qiao's Compound near north gate of Pingyao Old City. The post of 'Pingyao Old City - Qiao's Compound' is in the front of the tourist bus and easy to distinguish.
