Visitors to Putuoshan may directly take the vessels from Shanghai, Ningbo, Fuzhou and Shenjiamen. A high-speed hydrofoil between Ningbo and Putuoshan is also available. Visitors from Shanghai need to take a bus from Shiliupu Quay (Number 16 pier), when arrive at a wharf in Luchaogang, change the hover ferry to Putuoshan.
Visitors may also leave number 16 pier and get a ferry at Jingshan. Though the boats are the easiest way to get to Putuoshan from Shanghai, they are dependant on the weather. This journey is during the night, and much day time is saved. The scenery of the Bund of Shanghai, Nanpu Bridge, the East China Sea is very beautiful to view. The boat arrives at Putuoshan around breakfast time.
Visitors may take flights from Putuoshan Airport to Shanghai, Beijing, Xiamen, Jinjiang, Guangzhou and Shantou.
The transportation system in Putuoshan is quite well developed. The roads on the island have formed a belt. Close to Puji Temple there is the central bus stop. Bus NO.1 may take you to the main ferry quay and then south to the big statue of Guanyin. Bus NO.2 goes to the same ferry quay, passes the big statue, and arrives the Fayu Temple.
