Shanghai Nightlife

Shanghai is the largest city in China, and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, with over 20 million people. Located on China's central eastern coast at the mouth of the Yangtze River, the city is administered as a municipality of the People’s Republic of China with province-level status.
The city is a tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks, its modern and ever-expanding Pudong skyline, and its new reputation as a cosmopolitan center of culture and design. Today, Shanghai is the largest center of commerce and finance in mainland China, and has been described as the "showpiece" of the world's fastest-growing major economy.
As a common understanding, Shanghai has the most colorful night life in China. But if you have ever participated, you may feel it is probably the most colorful one in the world!
The following are the main sections where the nightlife concentrates.
● Xin Tian Di
It is a great success of combing the ancient architecture with the modern life. Xin Tian Di displays a comparatively traditional Shanghai architecture called Shi Ku Men. But walking into all those newly built-up, you find everything modern, western and trendy. This street in Shanghai is famous by its bars, discos and active nightlife. Nice places, worth a stop in one of its restaurants or bars. Xin Tian Di will be your closest match to what Lan Kwai Fong is to Hong Kong. Indeed, this ambitious area was build by Hong Kong's Shui On Group and contains stylish and expensive shops, pubs and restaurants.
● Fu Xin Park
It is located in th
e most inner side of the park. But be awared of the price. They charge us 50RMB for the entrance and a Gin Tonic for 54RMB. Another bar next to Park 97 is Guan Di as many Chinese celebrities go there often. The best Karaoke house Cashbox is also located inside of the park. So this park has it all! But it is no longer a park as all vehicles drive in by jetting out the poison and polluting the whole park during the night.
● Mao Ming Road
It looks like a local style to enjoy the nightlife. This street is supposed to be famous in Shanghai for its crowded bars and nightclubs, but as we went there there was absolutely no signal of nothing going on...
Remarks: the streets around were on renovation. Maybe that is the reason for so few people out there...
● Hen Shan Road
It was the hottest place before Xin Tian Di. It seems losing its attraction right now. But still it shows a more natural and real Shanghai taste. Taking an afternoon walk on Hen Shan Road is the most joyful thing, with the entire noise scattering away from you, with all shades covering upon your head, with little people passing by you. Probably it's the best Shanghai life.
● Cloud 9: Ex Highest Hotel Bar in the World
Cloud 9 in the Grand Hyatt was the highest hotel bar in the world (until the SWFC was built next door), with correspondingly dizzy views of the city (providing clouds don't obscure your view). It's certainly not cheap and there is a minimum charge, but drinks and nibbles are good, and service is excellent. The main attraction is definitely the view but you'll have to ask to be seated by the windows to take advantage of this (the staff have been obliging both times I've been here).
● Bing Jiang Road
Also from Bing Jia Rd, you can get such a wonderful view of the bund, especially at night, when the lights are all on, it is gorgeous. Take the ferry instead of the metro to get there so you can experience more of this city's night scene.
