The Jin Mao Tower is the third tallest building in the world and the tallest building in China. It is located in the Pudong New Area, in the center of the Lujiazui Finance and Trade District.
The Jin Mao building is a superb example of an innovative "east meets west" design that combines elements of traditional Chinese architecture with gothic influence. The astonishing result is an amazingly mode building. Architects based the design on the theme of the Chinese pagoda and integrated the number eight, since eight is considered lucky in China. The lowest annex of the building is sixteen stories high and each succeeding segment is 1/8th narrower than the one before it.
Two elevators, with a speed of 9.1 m/sec., are working to transport visitors to the top where they can enjoy one of the most impressive views of the metropolis.
