This museum, located on the easte end of People's Square, is a look at Shanghai from the past to the future. Its mode five-story building made of microlite glass is dedicated to showing the development of Shanghai as far into the future as 2020. The main attraction, on the third floor, is the vast small scaled model of Shanghai as it will look in 2020. This model is so detailed that it contains everything from soon-to-be-built skyscrapers to new subway and light-rail trains to even new parks and greenery. The structures that are not yet built are made of clear plastic. Those living in aged cramped downtown housing will only have to look here to see if their homes will be transformed into mode buildings. Chances are it will be!
The rest of the building includes a U-shaped mezzanine with photographic exhibits of colonial and contemporary Shanghai, a temporary exhibition hall on the second floor, and a cafe and art gallery on the fifth. There are restaurants and retail shops crafted in the style of 1930s Shanghai on the underground level that connects to the Metro. This is a great place to lea and marvel about the fast developing city of Shanghai and a fun way to spend a few hours of your day.
