Inter-city Transportation
By Flight
Urumqi Diwopu (Diwobao) International Airport (URC) is located in Diwopu, about 16 kilometers northwest of the downtown area of Urumqi City.
Every week, over 700 flights depart from this airport to more than 53 cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Chengdu, Lanzhou, Dunhuang, Harbin, Guangzhou and Qingdao, etc.. International flights to 14 overseas destinations including Tashlkent, Novosibirsk, Moscow, Islamabad, Almaty and Bishkek are available.
Passengers can take the airport shuttle bus special line to travel between the airport and the downtown area. Tickets can be bought in the hall of Kempinski Hotel in Urumqi. The ticket price of a single trip is CNY10 per person.
By Train
The train station in Urumqi is located in the southwest part of the city. Passengers can take trains from Urumqi to six major domestic cities including Xian, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Zhengzhou and Lanzhou. As the distance is very long, hard or soft sleeper berth is greatly recommended. Other main cities in Xinjiang Province can also be reached by train. Train services also connect Urumqi with other main cities in Xinjiang, such as Korla, Aksu, Kuitun, and Liuyuan. Also there is an international railway connecting Urumqi to Almaty, Kazakhstan. Passengers are suggested to buy tickets at least three days in advance.
By Long-distance Bus
Passengers may take long-distance buses to most cities in Xinjiang Province. Special tourist lines to Heavenly Lake, Southern Pa

Inner-city Transportation
By City-Bus
There are around 100 bus routes with 2,000 vehicles in Urumqi. Visitors may take city bus to the commercial center, residential areas, villages and tourist destinations. Buses run from 08:00 to 22:00 every day. The charge is between CNY1 and CNY2.
By Taxi
Visitors to Urumqi may take a taxi to avoid crowds and pickpockets. The flag-down fare is CNY6 for the first 2 kilometers and CNY1.3 for every extra kilometer. The cost for a journey around the downtown is around CNY10 to CNY15.
By Rental Car
Visitors with a well arranged travel plan may also rent a car to visit attractions in or around Urumqi. This is a much more convenient and time-saving choice. Visitors are suggested to go to a reliable agency to find a rental car with a local driver in Urumqi. The price ranges from CNY100 to CNY800 per day according to different car.
