Located in Fujian province on China’s southeast coast, Xiamen has been one of the country’s major seaports for hundreds of years. And the city features a deep water port that is open year-round due to its favourable climate. Xiamen’s appeal to visitors mainly results from its century-old colonial architecture. Due to the location advantage, Xiamen is called one of China most iconic travel destinations.

Comprising Xiamen Island, the northern bank of the Jiulong River, Tong’an County and Gulangyu Island, Xiamen used to be the link to the Chinese mainland by the Xiamen Bridge and Gaoji seawall.

Generally, Xiamen handles the mild climate, except the heavy rain and the typhoon season. Hence, it is suitable for tourists to travel through out of the year. As known, Xiamen is a coastal city, which provides the access to convenient transportation. The transport options there are very good. The area also boasts local produce from the sea. Tea, sugarcane, longan, olives, abalone, crab, prawn and fish are just some of the many local ingredients used. And they often appear on the city’s restaurant menus.

Relative to the history of China, Xiamen is relatively young. It is firstly recorded history dating to the Song dynasty. Most citizens there are Chinese people who have moved overseas, but still have maintained their connections here. With its unique Asian culture and its colorful colonial history, Xiamen comprises some cultural and historical treasures.
