Xiamen Transportations

The transportation system in Xiamen is quite well developed, especially during recent years, when the CRH bullet trains are put into use.
Inter-city Transportation
By Flight
Xiamen International Airport is located close to the city, with the distance of only 10 kilometers. It is one of the four leading international airports in China, after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Flight to more than 40 large and medium domestic cities are being operated. Passengers may also take flights to and from Hong Kong, Macao, Bangkok, Singapore, Manila and Osaka. Buses from the railway station to the airport charges only CNY1.

By Train
The bullet train service started in Xiamen since the year of 2010. Regular train service going north and south is also available, with a much cheaper price. However, due to the circuitous route through mountains, the train speed is quite slow.
Visitors heading to the coastal cities in the south, or to Shenzhen and Hong Kong are suggested to take a bus. The long-distance buses to Shenzhen are usually Chinese bed buses.

By Long-distance Bus
The Fuzhou-Xiamen-Shantou highway is the traffic artery of Fujian Province. Long-distance buses are a good choice for visitors to coastal cities south to Hong Kong or cities within the province. In Xiamen there are three long-distance bus stations. Passengers may take buses to major cities within Fujian Province, including Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, and Longyan. Long-distance buses to tourist destinations outside the province such as G
uilin and Nanning in Guangxi Province, and Wuhan and Shanghai, are also available.

Inner-city Transportation
By City-bus
In the urban area of Xiamen, the regular public bus ticket fare is CNY1 and for an air-conditioned bus it is CNY2. Xiamen University, the ferry terminal and the railway station are the three traffic junctions in Xiamen. All the scenic spots can be easily reached from these three spots.
There are special-line minibuses with the starting and ending stops written on the window or the top of the bus. Such buses stop when people hail along the street side. The price depends on the distance you travel.

By Taxi
The flag-down fare is CNY8 for the first three kilometers. CNY2 per kilometer is charged for the next five kilometers.
