Xining, the capital of Qinghai province of China, lies in the eastern part of Qinghai-Tibet plateau, and the upper reaches of Shuang Shui River. Xining was a necessary road between East and West in ancient times and also is one of the major gateways to the Tibetan Plateau and an ancient highland city on the Yellow River.
