★The monsoon there is obvious. The direction of prevailing wind changes significantly with the seasons. The cold and dry northerlies from the north are prevailing in winter, while the hot and humid southeaster from the sea is prevailing in summer. During the transition seasons, spring and more southeaster is in spring and more northerlies in autumn.
★The difference among four seasons is distinct. According to the average temperature, the temperature of summer is more than 22 ℃; the temperature of winter is less than 10 ℃; the temperature between 10-22 ℃ is spring or fall. The winter in Yangzhou is longer, and then summer followed. Spring and fall are short, each with two month.
★The disparity between summer and winter is clear. The average temperature July and August, the two hottest months, is about 27.5 ℃. The extreme maximum temperature is 39.1 ℃; the temperature, which is higher than 35 ℃, occurs in 8.1 days of one year. January is the coldest month, with the average temperature of 1.8 ℃. The extreme minimum temperature is -17.7 ℃
★The rainfall is abundant. The annual average rainfall is 1020.4mm, and rainfall at most of one year is up to 1645.1mm (1991); the minimum is only 440.6mm (1978). Rainfall is above normal in summer. Generally speaking, it is rainy season from June to mid-July. We also call it the "Mei Rain." The high temperature and rain is beneficial to agricultural production.
