Zhenjiang Travel Guide
Many legends connected to the landscape in Zhenjiang have given an aura of mystery to this ancient city. There are also a great number of cultural relics and historical spots located in Zhenjiang. In modern times Zhenjiang is a bustling city with a booming economy. With its natural beauty and history it has become a very popular destination for travelers in China. Zhenjiang sits on the southern bank of the Yangtze River and borders the provincial capital city of Nanjing as well as Changzhou and Yangzhou.
The three mountains of Jin, Jiao, and Beigu, situated on the bank of the Yangtze River, are especially well known. In China they have been collectively called the Greatest Landscape under Heaven. The most famous attraction is Jinshan Temple, which was built on Jin Mountain and is featured in the classical Chinese Legend of the White Snake. Another legendary temple, the Ganlu Temple, on Beigu Mountain, was the place where Emperor Liu Bei's wedding took place in the Three Kingdoms Period. Jiao Mountain, covered with lush greenery, is like a piece of floating jade in the middle of the Yangtze River. It is famous for the thousand-year-old Dinghui Temple and more than 400 stone tablets from past dynasties. Other mountains include Mount Maoshan and Mount Baohuashan, which also hold special places in Chinese history as the origin of Chinese Taoism. They are also a holy Buddhist site.
