1. Q:What do “upstream” and “downstream” mean in Yangtze River Cruise Ship Schedule?
A: The Yangtze River flows in the west—east direction, Chongqing is on the upstream, compared with Yichang. The cruise ship starting from Chongqing is called downstream, and vice versa.
2. Q: Should we choose Yichang or Chongqing to be the starting port?
A: The itinerary from Chongqing (downstream) requires 4 days and 3 nights, Yichang (upstream) requires 5 days and 4 nights. It depends on your time arrangement to choose the starting port.
B: The transportation in Chongqing is more convenient than in Yichang. Generally Yichang needs to change train or flight in Wuhan, the concrete itinerary depends on your arrangement.
PS: Whether to start from Chongqing or to Yichang, you will have the full scenery of the Yangtze River, all the tourist sites will be passed in daytime.
3. Q: When is it appropriate to book tickets in advance?
A: It is the best time to reserve the tickets 20±5 days prior to the sailing date. Neither too early nor too late is a good choice. Of course, if your tour date is during the May Day Festival, National Day Festival, Spring Festival or other holidays, you need to reserve earlier.
4. Q: How are children charged?
A: Babies below 2 years are charged 10% of the cost. Children aged 2—12 years old need to pay 75% to take an extra bed; Victoria Cruises charge 2—12 years old children 68% with no bed, New Century Cruises charge 50% with no bed. Children above the age of 12 years are charged the same with adults.
5.Q: I travel on myself and do not want to share a cabin with others. How much to pay?
A: Generally Cruise companies arrange the single passengers of the same gender and nationality to share a cabin. If you want a single room, you need to pay 75% for extra charge. In other words, you need to pay 1.75 times of the cruise price.
6.Q: Can three passengers share a room?
A: You may add a bed in your cabin, the price is 75% of the cruise price. Some ships do not allow adding beds. You may consult when you have chosen your ship.
7.Q: What are the room types on the cruise ship?
A:Generally there Standard Cabin with Balcony, Top Class Guest Room, Deluxe Suite, Shangri-La Suites.
On some ships, standard rooms may have no balconies. Some ships do not have all of the room types, while other ships have more room types. The prices on the web site, if there is no special explanation, are prices for the standard rooms.
8.Q: How to pay tips? How much is it appropriate?
A: Passengers are free to decide whether to give tips, or how much to give.
However, because passengers from mainland China do not have the habit to give tips, some cruise companies include the tips into the cruise price for passengers from mainland China. They do not need to pay tips on board.
9.Q: What are included in the cruise price? Are there activities requiring payments during the cruise?
The price already includes: Accommodation, meals, tourist sites (Fengdu Ghost City, Less Three Gorges, Three Gorges Dam), guide in Chinese & English, singing & dance show and parties.
The following includes:
A. The starting and ending port—airport transportation and accompany service.
B. Consumption for personal use: Shopping, wine & drinks, sauna, laundry, tips, and communication.
C. Temporarily added tourist sites at your own expense.
10.Q: Less Three Gorges and Shennong Stream, which one is better?
A:Less Three Gorges is the complex of Daning River Dragon Gate Gorge, Bawu Gorge, and Dicui Gorge.
Shennong Stream is a branch of Yangtze River, with its origin from Shennongjia. There are 3 gorges along Shennong Stream, Longchang Gorge, Yingwu Gorge, and Shennong Gorge.
As the sceneries of Less Three Gorges and Shennong Stream are similar, the ship will choose one of them for onshore excursion.
11.Q: After successful reservation of the cruise ship, what is the voucher to get aboard?
A:Similar to e-tickets for flights, Yangtze cruise ships provide e-tickets for ships.
You need to provide passenger name and sometimes certificate number when doing reservation.
2—3 working days after your reservation, cruise ship company will send the e-ticket to you. The ticket includes the information as passenger name, cruise ship name, boarding code, boarding port, debarkation port, boarding time, telephone number on ship, etc. You may type it. You may also get aboard with valid identity document.
12.Q: What documents do we need to show to get aboard?
A:When you get aboard, you need to show your valid identity document, including: ID card, Home visit permit, Birth certificate or House hold register for children, Certificate for martial officer, etc.
13.Q: Chongqing Port
In Chongqing, the passenger transport converges at Chaotianmen Port, with over 10 ports numbered with numerals. This ports are scattered at both sides of Chaotianmen Gate, and called y unifiedly.
14.Q: Yichang Port
In Yichang, there are many ports for the cruise ships to tie up. The ports are scattered loosely to each other. The major ports are Urban Area Port, and the New Century Port.
15.Q: How to know the port Yangtze Cruise Ships to berth?
The ports where the cruise ships berth keep changing. The port administration department will decide the port for the berth in the afternoon one day prior to the sailing date.
When you have reserved the ship, we will tell you the telephone number on the ship. You may call to consult the port before get aboard.
16.Q: How are the rooms arranged? Can we reserve a certain floor?
A. Generally the ticket do not identify the concrete floor or room number. This is to be arranged by the management counter when you get aboard. Similar with the checking in of the hotels onshore.
B. Foreign guests first. According to the habitual norms of the luxury Yangtze cruise ships, with the same class of guest rooms, foreign guests (whose ship tickets are more expensive) will be arranged first. Foreign guests of the same nationality and travel group will be arranged to accommodate together.
C. Senior citizens and guests with physical inconvenience first. If there are senior citizens and guests with physical inconvenience, please inform us in advance. We will help to arrange the floor where the management counter and dinning hall are located.
D. No difference between rooms of the same class. No matter on which floor your room locates, there is no difference with other rooms of the same class. You may watch the river scenery, in quiet and cozy atmosphere.
E. All rooms on board are above the water. You will not need to worry about the irritation of the ship engines, as they are installed on the ship part below water face. Guest rooms are arranged from the second floor above water.
17.Q: Does ship ticket include travel insurance?
There is insurance covered in the ticket. According to the ship conditions, the most humanistic compensation is below USD3000. You may buy a travel insurance on your own.
18.Q: What to wear during travel?
Summer: The temperature in summer in the Three Gorges is rather high, and duration of sunshine is long. You are suggested to prepare sunbonnets, sunglasses, sunscreen cream, etc.
Spring & Autumn: Sweaters, jackets, water-proof dust coats with hats are needed.
Winter: The exterior temperature is quite low during sailing. You are suggested to prepare water-proof overcoats and cold protective clothing.
Warm note (just for reference): Leisure clothes on board and onshore; Suits and ties for men, evening dresses for ladies to attend the Captain Cocktail Lounge, and the Farewell Party; Comfortable travel shoes.
19.Q: Is internet available on board?
Generally there are public internet bars on cruise ships of and above 4 star. Some ships provide interface ports in guest rooms, however, the net cannot be used till now.
Normally the internet bars are charged by hours, the price standards are different among ships.
20.Q: Except the sightseeing, are there activities arranged on board?
Except onshore excursion, there are many colorful activities on board arranged for you. Different activities are arranged on different ships. Normally there are Singing and dance evenings, Cruise ship explanation sessions, Yangtze River lectures, Chinese calligraphy lectures, Chinese food culture lectures, Taiji (Shadow-boxing) lectures, etc. You may choose your favorite to join.
21.Q: After reservation, can I refund the tickets if accident happens?
If you cancel the reservation in 45 days prior to the sailing date, the cruise company will charge:
30—44 days prior to sailing date, USD100 per person to be charged;
15—29 days prior to sailing date, 50% of the ticket price to be charged;
If you cancel the reservation 14 days prior to sailing date, or temporarily do not get aboard, you will get no refund for your ship ticket.
