Yunnan Ethnic Villages, located six kilometers south of Kunming, is a 2,000 mu theme park overlooked by Dianchi Lake in the south and the famous Weste Mountains Scenic Area in the west.
Here, each of the 26 ethnicities in Yunnan is represented by a village with a square in the center of them unifying the villages. Here, there is also a theatre, where you can enjoy performances of ethnic songs and dances, as well as a folklore museum and a museum of ethnic waxworks. In the south, there is a large Chinese garden with horticultural and garden landscaping traditions. Besides leaing about the different Yunnan cultures, you can also experience the various cuisines and purchase souveniors. Some traditional festivals of these ethnical groups held here include the Sanyuejie Festival of the Bai people, Splashing Water festival of Dai, Torch Festival of Yi and Three Flowers festival of Naxi People.
The Haigeng Park, a National Sport Training Base, is only two kilometers away from here.
Tip:
The ethnic singing and dancing performances and folk performances are held from 9:00 to 17:00, mainly in the Dancing Hall and Tuanjie Square. The Asian Elephants performances are especially unique and entertaining.
