Money Issues
The Renminbi (literally "people's currency") is the legal tender in the mainland of the People's Republic of China. It is issued by the People's Bank of China (PBOC, central bank). The official abbreviation is CNY, although also commonly abbreviated as "RMB".
That will be more convenient if you can bring a combination of cash (US$1's, US$5's, US$10's and US$20's) and travelers' checks for your trip. However, it will be not a good idea for you to bring only travelers' checks since US dollars in cash form are accepted at many places when you are in China while travelers' checks must be converted into RMB firstly when you need to use. In addition, Credit cards are not widely accepted in China but are becoming more popular in major cities. But in some important and famous places, such as the International hotels, and department stores and shops, to which foreigners often visit, often accept them.
You need to pay attention that there is a limit on the amount of foreign currency permitted to bring into China. When you are going to change your money to Renminbi in China, you’d better keep the receipts that the bank gives you, because you need them to change the money back at the end of your tour. What’s more, when you leave China with Renminbi, it could be not possible for you to exchange them.
