Wuxia Gorge (Wu Gorge) is 45 kilometers long. It extends from the mouth of the Daning River in the west to Guandukou in Badong County, with Hubei Province in the east. Wuxia Gorge rises with its lofty peaks following the Qutang Gorge. It is also known as the Great Gorge. The two sections - the Golden Helmet and Silver Armour Gorge and the Iron Coffin Gorge comprise the Wuxia Gorge.
The Daning River is flanked by continuous strange peaks and presents an unusual scenery. The extraordinary beauty is attracting more and more visitors, and this section of Daning River becomes known as the Three Little Gorges.
As the river cut through the Wushan mountains, its roaring currents change their directions constantly. The green trees and bushes, together with fogs and clouds covering the high peaks, form the most beautiful part of the Yangtze River.
On the grey-white rock face of the Congregated Immortals Peak, there is a carved inscription, known as the Kongming Pai. This is attributed to the great third-century politician and strategist Zhuge Liang.
The small trading town of Peishi is located on the south bank, 5 kilometers below Kongming Pai. This town is the provincial border between Sichuan and Hubei. Guandukou is the north-bank town at the end of Wu Gorge. Above this town, there used to be the site of the Flint Rapid, very violent at high water, with limestone rocks jutting into the river like huge stone gates.
Wushan at the entrance to Wu Gorge is a famous town. The12 high peaks in Wushan are described by legend as twelve fairy spirits. Shennu (Goddess) Peak is the most famous one, resembling a graceful girl looking down at the boats in the river.
